    Food Delivery is Estimated to Increase by $20B in 2022; VROMO and RMDA to Support Restaurants with Fair Pricing and Improved Customer Experiences

    November 11, 2021 – AUSTIN, TX - - Restaurant Marketing and Delivery Association (RMDA) announced today its partnership with VROMO, a dedicated restaurant delivery software, to give restaurants the ability to better manage delivery operations.

    The VROMO system offers route optimization, branded delivery tracking and restaurant messaging as a standard, to ensure an exceptional delivery experience for customers. The system automates the management and alerts for orders and will leverage the 500+ RMDA members to facilitate overflow delivery capability in peak times, which will also expand delivery zones.

    Aggregate data and conversations uncovers top trends including ghost Kitchens, digital marketing on the rise, hurdles of alcohol delivery and delivery industry growth continues

    August 31, 2021 – AUSTIN, TX - - Restaurant Marketing and Delivery Association (RMDA) announced today the recap of research, insights and overall trends that surfaced at its annual conference.  From surveys conducted on key concerns, aggregate data from presentations and conversations uncover top trends that include ghost Kitchens, digital marketing on the rise, hurdles of alcohol delivery and delivery industry growth continues.

    “The food delivery landscape is quickly evolving (again), largely due to: rising consumer expectations, shrinking restaurant margins, and government regulation stepping in.  We're already seeing this in the market, as Uber and DoorDash have joined Grubhub in letting restaurants choose to only use these national players for generating orders,” stated Andrew Nakkache. “This leaves a major gap in the market to fulfill these deliveries on behalf of restaurants. We predict local delivery services will fill this crucial need in the years to come.”

    The 2021 RMDA Annual Conference hosted almost 200 Independent Restaurant Delivery Service Owners and/or Delivery Service Provider Owners. The event was held at The Riverside in Boulder, Colorado on Monday, August 2nd and Tuesday, August 3rd, 2021.

    "The eCommerce and technology revolution of local delivery is happening quickly. New tech for customer acquisition, financing, on-boarding and dispatching are focused on the independents and local operators,” stated Justin Greene, RMDA Board Member.

    Virtual and Ghost Kitchens are on a massive increase in the market

    ·         Restaurants are continuing to better educate themselves and use new channels for delivery. (Relationships with restaurants directly will win over a cookie cutter one size fits all delivery with over 30% sales commission percentage.)

    Hurdles of alcohol delivery:

    ·         Alcohol delivery has significant challenges as there is no uniformity (except for age) in laws as they differ from each State and local community. This hampers the ability for technology when attempting to deploy to scale tech solutions

    Delivery industry growth continues:

    ·         Increased number of high volume restaurants are decoupling all-in-one delivery solutions and moving towards "Delivery Service Providers" and/or "Delivery As A Service" providers instead of relying solely on the national brands

    ·         Independents more likely to broker local relationships to deliver verticals to food delivery, ie CBD, Cannabis (where legal), meal kits, auto parts, etc.

    ·         Financial Tech leaders Gigwage & DDI working on health/occupational insurance for 1099 contractors in the industry

    Independent Delivery Services Gain Momentum with Processes and Tools While Reinforcing Commitment to Help the Overall Success of Restaurant Partners

    Pandemic drives 68 percent increase in month over month in chargebacks

    APRIL 27, 2021 – AUSTIN, TX - Restaurant Marketing and Delivery Association (RMDA) announced today the selection of TrueAccord as the organization’s digital debt collection agency. The RMDA represents 700+ independent local restaurant delivery companies, which are a part of the $40 billion takeout and delivery industry. According to figures from MyChargeBack, a fund recovery firm, there was a 68 percent increase in charge-backs month over month between February and April 2020 for low dollar (less than $5,000) transactions.  This staggering jump in charge-backs is most likely attributed to the pandemic.

    All of the RMDA members have access to TrueAccord’s collection tools for a minimal recovery rate. In turn, the restaurant partners can recover the money owed for every meal ordered. 

    “The restaurant delivery industry, especially local independent services, is more vulnerable because they are less equipped to recoup losses. Many restaurants and delivery services may not even realize for some time they are a victim because the chargeback amount for a food order is typically low, in the $30 to $80 range,” stated Andrew Simmons, President of RMDA.  “It’s like shoplifting, but as a digital dine-and-dash. The buyer gets a meal and skips out on the bill by filing a chargeback. Fraudsters perpetrate this scheme because it’s easy with no apparent recourse.”

    Chargebacks are a kind of forced payment reversal facilitated by a cardholder’s issuing bank. The customer goes to the issuing bank, claims a transaction was fraudulent or had some other issue, and the bank overturns the sale on the cardholder’s behalf. These chargebacks typically originate from a legitimate purchase, and then later the person files a chargeback without a valid reason because the food order was delivered, accepted and properly authorized by the cardholder.

MARCH 30, 2021 – AUSTIN, TX - Restaurant Marketing and Delivery Association (RMDA) is pleased to announce the appointment of four new members to its Board of Directors. 

RMDA’s new Board Members are Andrew Simmons, President, Ashley Campos, Vice President, Justin Greene, Secretary and Jeff Sasse as Treasurer. The new Board Members will contribute a wealth of experience for restaurant marketing and delivery services. Two open positions will be filled by the annual conference in September.
